Android 2.2 update for Asian HTC Desire

Singapore got Froyo on the HTC Desire , now it’s Hong Kong users turn to get it on their Android phones.

HTC put a notice on their site about releasing an OTA Android 2.2 update for Desire in Hong Kong.

Update – HTC Desire Firmware Over The Air (FOTA) update
Your phone will receive a notification of FOTA update when it is made available. Simply press OK to accept the update via a data connection such as Wi-Fi or GPRS/3G. After installing the update, you can confirm a successful update by confirming the Build number (From the Home Screen go to MENU> Settings> About Phone> Software Information> Build number). The new Build number after the update will be 2.11.832.2 Update: Android 2.2 and HTC Sense update. NotePlease back up your data first before upgrading your phone. We recommend using a free Wi-Fi hotspot or an unlimited data plan to apply this update. If not, standard data connection charges may apply. For any questions, please contact us at +852-3520-1234。

It might take time for it to be available for your phone.

Fennec Alpha for Android arrives on select devices

Mozilla recently released an alpha version of  Fennec, Mozilla’s mobile browser. Fennec 2.0, which is built on the e Gecko engine which powers Firefox 4, adds integrated sync and ups performance by separating user interface and rendering processes.
Fennec 2.0 can be installed on Android phones such as: Nexus One, HTC’s Desire, Droid Incredible, EVO 4G and Legend; and Motorola’s Droid 2 and Droid X.

New HTC Android phone leaked


According to Engadget, another HTC Android device has been leaked online. The new device is rumored to be coming to Verizon as leaked earlier in the road map. It looks to be a mashup of the Evo 4G and Nexus One.
Apparently it will have: an 8 MP camera with LED flash, 4.3 inch screen, a kick stand, a front facing camera for watching videos or possibly video chats?.

The Android powered HTC Desire is now available in stores and on US Cellular website. U.S. Cellular is offering the HTC Desire  for $199.95 after $70 mail-in rebate with a two-year contract.
Desire comes with 3.7-inch Super LCD touchscreen, a 5 megapixel, autofocus camera w/flash,  GPS and Wi-Fi capability and HTC Sense UI. It is currently the higher end of the 2 Android devices carried bu US Cellular.

Because of supply shortages, the HTC Desire was shipped in limited quantities and sold out in many locations the day they arrived.
